Twintig jaar op de vleugels van zijn gitaarspel
Het begon, zoals zoveel moois in Michelines leven, met Jacques Brel. Een Gentse zangeres met rock-‘n-roll in het bloed kruiste het pad van een Nederlandse gitarist die al had gespeeld met Herman Brood, Jan Akkerman, Barry Hay en Mathilde Santing. Wat een handvol concerten had kunnen blijven, werd een muzikale vriendschap die nu twintig jaar duurt.
Micheline noemt hem ErWing, en dat is geen tikfout. Op de vleugels van zijn gitaarspel vliegt ze. Zijn zes snaren klinken als een heel orkest. Samen hebben ze geen band nodig, want ze hebben elkaar. Zij geeft een knipoog en hij rekt een solo op. Hij slaat een onverwacht akkoord aan en zij danst mee. Het is een duo in de puurste vorm: direct, spontaan en elke keer net even anders.
Met die vleugels kwamen ze ver. Ze speelden in schouwburgen en op pleinen in heel Nederland, in België en Frankrijk, en ze toerden door Australië en Nieuw-Zeeland. Het hoogtepunt was een optreden in Carnegie Hall in New York.
Onderweg bouwden ze aan een rijk repertoire. Het album Crème de la Crème, waarop ErWing als coproducent alle instrumenten insprak, groeide uit tot een theaterprogramma en later tot Crème de la Crème Deluxe. Daarna volgden onder meer La Musique, A la Carte en Zing, vecht, huil, bid,…. Elk programma had een eigen smaak, maar het recept bleef hetzelfde: bekende liedjes, telkens weer vers opgediend.
Nu vieren ze hun jubileum, en dat doen ze natuurlijk met bubbels.
Op het menu
Sluit je ogen en het is ineens zomer in Parijs. Ergens tokkelt een gitaar in een steegje van Montmartre, glazen klinken op een terras, en een stem raakt een snaar die je vergeten was.
Piaf raakt je regelrecht in je hart met La vie en rose, L’hymne à l’amour en Je ne regrette rien. Aznavour laat je lachen en huilen in dezelfde adem. Trenet roept Boum! en de hele zaal deint mee. Micheline & ErWing varen langs de Middellandse Zee en flaneren over de Champs-Élysées, met liefde, heimwee en kattenkwaad, en genoeg ruimte voor een traan én een glimlach.
Ze zingen deze liedjes niet gewoon na, ze maken er eigenzinnige, uiterst persoonlijke versies van. Micheline doet dat met haar warme, vlammende stem en tomeloze podiumtemperament, ErWing met zijn virtuoze gitaar. Na twintig jaar lezen ze elkaars gedachten, dagen ze elkaar uit en lachen ze om wat de ander net bedenkt. Twintig jaar, een wereldtournee en nog geen sprankje sleur. Daar heffen we het glas op.

French chansons, straight from the heart
Twenty years of flying on the wings of his guitar play
It all began, like so many beautiful things in Micheline’s life, with Jacques Brel. A singer from Ghent with rock ‘n’ roll in her blood crossed paths with a Dutch guitarist who had already played with Herman Brood, Jan Akkerman, Barry Hay and Mathilde Santing. What might have been a handful of concerts became a musical friendship that has now lasted twenty years.
Micheline calls him ErWing, and that’s no typo. On the wings of his guitar playing, she flies. His six strings sound like an entire orchestra. Together they don’t need a band, because they have each other. She gives a wink and he stretches out a solo. He strikes an unexpected chord and she dances along. It’s a duo in its purest form: direct, spontaneous and a little different every time.
Those wings carried them far. They played theatres and town squares all over the Netherlands, in Belgium and France, and toured Australia and New Zealand. The highlight was a performance at Carnegie Hall in New York.
Along the way they built a rich repertoire. The album Crème de la Crème, on which ErWing, as co-producer, recorded every instrument, grew into a theatre show and later into Crème de la Crème Deluxe. It was followed by La Musique, A la Carte and Zing, vecht, huil, bid,…, among others. Each show had its own flavour, but the recipe stayed the same: well-loved songs, served fresh every time.
Now they are celebrating their anniversary, and naturally they are doing it with bubbles.

Close your eyes and suddenly it’s summer in Paris. Somewhere a guitar is strumming in a Montmartre alley, glasses clink on a terrace, and a voice strikes a chord you had forgotten.
Piaf goes straight to your heart with La vie en rose, L’hymne à l’amour and Je ne regrette rien. Aznavour makes you laugh and cry in the same breath. Trenet shouts Boum! and the whole room sways along. Micheline & ErWing sail along the Mediterranean and stroll down the Champs-Élysées, with love, longing and mischief, and plenty of room for a tear and a smile.
They don’t simply sing these songs, they turn them into bold, deeply personal versions. Micheline does it with her warm, fiery voice and boundless stage presence, ErWing with his virtuoso guitar. After twenty years they read each other’s minds, challenge each other and laugh at whatever the other has just come up with. Twenty years, a world tour and not a trace of routine. Let’s raise a glass to that.

Des chansons françaises, droit au cœur
Vingt ans sur les ailes de sa guitare
Tout a commencé, comme tant de belles choses dans la vie de Micheline, avec Jacques Brel. Une chanteuse gantoise au sang rock ‘n’ roll a croisé la route d’un guitariste néerlandais qui avait déjà joué avec Herman Brood, Jan Akkerman, Barry Hay et Mathilde Santing. Ce qui aurait pu rester une poignée de concerts est devenu une amitié musicale qui dure aujourd’hui depuis vingt ans.
Micheline l’appelle ErWing, et ce n’est pas une faute de frappe. Sur les ailes (wings) de sa guitare, elle s’envole. Ses six cordes sonnent comme un orchestre entier. Ensemble, ils n’ont pas besoin de groupe : ils s’ont l’un l’autre. Elle lui fait un clin d’œil et il prolonge son solo. Il plaque un accord inattendu et elle se met à danser. C’est un duo dans sa forme la plus pure : direct, spontané et chaque fois un peu différent.
Ces ailes les ont menés loin. Ils ont joué dans les théâtres et sur les places des Pays-Bas, en Belgique et en France, et ont tourné en Australie et en Nouvelle-Zélande. Point d’orgue : un concert au Carnegie Hall de New York.
En chemin, ils ont construit un riche répertoire. L’album Crème de la Crème, sur lequel ErWing, en tant que coproducteur, a enregistré tous les instruments, est devenu un spectacle, puis Crème de la Crème Deluxe. Ont suivi notamment La Musique, A la Carte et Zing, vecht, huil, bid,…. Chaque spectacle avait sa propre saveur, mais la recette restait la même : des chansons que l’on connaît, servies chaque fois avec une fraîcheur nouvelle.
Aujourd’hui, ils fêtent leur anniversaire, et bien sûr, ils le font avec des bulles.

Fermez les yeux et soudain, c’est l’été à Paris. Quelque part, une guitare résonne dans une ruelle de Montmartre, les verres trinquent en terrasse, et une voix fait vibrer une corde que vous aviez oubliée.
Piaf vous touche droit au cœur avec La vie en rose, L’hymne à l’amour et Je ne regrette rien. Aznavour vous fait rire et pleurer d’un même souffle. Trenet s’écrie Boum ! et toute la salle se met à balancer. Micheline & ErWing longent la Méditerranée et flânent sur les Champs-Élysées, avec amour, nostalgie et espièglerie, et assez de place pour une larme et un sourire.
Ils ne se contentent pas de reprendre ces chansons : ils en font des versions audacieuses et profondément personnelles. Micheline avec sa voix chaude et flamboyante et son tempérament de scène débordant, ErWing avec sa guitare virtuose. Après vingt ans, ils lisent dans les pensées l’un de l’autre, se lancent des défis et rient de ce que l’autre vient d’inventer. Vingt ans, une tournée mondiale et pas une once de routine.
